BIO 1242 Principles of Anatomy & Physiology II
The second course in a two-semester sequence studying the structure and function of the human body. Topics include the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system, the digestive system, metabolism, the urinary system, fluid and electrolyte balance, acid-base balance and the reproductive system. Three classroom, two lab hours per week.
Prerequisites: BIO 1141
Course Outcomes
- Describe the physiological processes that each organ system contributes to body homeostasis and describe the interdependence of the organ systems of the body.
- Use formal anatomical terminology in describing the tissues and organs of the organ-system; identify and locate tissues and organs on diagrams, photos, models, tissue slides, and dissected specimens; relate anatomical structure to physiological function.
- Use correct scientific terminology in describing the physiological processes central to each organ system. Describe the mechanisms, biochemical pathways, and control systems for the principle physiological processes, and relate physiological function to the anatomical structure of the organ systems.
