CHN 1101 Elementary Chinese I

Foundation for understanding, speaking, reading and writing Chinese. Work outside of class and/or in the language laboratory is required.

Prerequisites: None

Course Outcomes
  • Express oneself with simple Chinese phrases and common expressions in a situational dialogue and cultural context.
  • Learn and master the Pinyin system for basic pronunciation and basic strokes for character writing.
  • Learn basic sentence structures. Use the following grammar concepts: present and past tenses, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, and adverbs.
  • Read and summarize the content of lessons in simple sentences.
