FRE 1101 Elementary French I

A foundation for gaining basic knowledge of French grammar, speaking, writing, reading and cultural knowledge.

Prerequisites: NONE

Course Outcomes
  • Gain basic and general knowledge and understanding of French cultural facts.
  • Listen to and comprehend topics in contextual situations. Comprehend main ideas and key phrases in basic level French. Answer short questions with short sentence responses.
  • Read short comprehension passages and summarize the plot in simple sentences.
  • Use the following grammar concepts in situational contexts: Present tense, -er verbs conjugations, irregular verbs of etre/avoir, use of adjectives, adverbs, interrogative pronouns and possessive pronouns, Passe compose tense, imperfect tense, expressions with faire.
