HIM 2262 Advanced Medical Office Coding

ICD-10-CM diagnosis and CPT procedure coding for the physician's office and other ambulatory facilities. Two classroom, two lab hours per week.

Prerequisites: HIM 1201 and BIO 1222

Course Outcomes
  • Demostrate professional behaviors, attitudes, and values consistent with and appropriate to the entry level HIM professional.
  • Apply ICD-10-CM Coding Guidelines and CMS regulatory guidelines for Outpatient Services, select and sequence ICD-10-CM codes.
  • Apply CPT Coding Guidelines to locate and sequence codes for services and procedures rendered during an encounter.
  • Apply ICD-10-CM and CPT Coding Guidelines to locate and sequence codes in simulated emergency room and outpatient surgery medical cases.
