Basic parameters of music through a survey of styles from Gregorian Chant to jazz and current popular styles focusing on melody, rhythm, harmony, performance media and form.

- Listen to music and analyze melodic, rhythmic, harmonic, formal structures and style.
- Compare and contrast musical terms, concepts, important pieces and historical figures in each of the major music history eras.
