MUS 1122 History of Pop/Rock Music

The musical reasons and social conditions under which pop music and rock music have developed, with particular emphasis on music from 1955 until the present. The personalities, events and music that shaped this music and which continue to evolve today.

  • Identify social conditions that brought about pop and rock music.
  • Identify trends and personalities, decade by decade, in a chronological progression.
  • Acquire a working vocabulary of musical terms and associations with each style of pop/rock music.
