MUS 1139 Contemporary Gospel Ensemble

The performance and presentation of mixed-voice choral literature from the African-American, spiritual and contemporary worship and praise music tradition. The ensemble will present at least one public concert per semester.

Prerequisites: NONE

Course Outcomes
  • Rehearse and present contemporary African American gospel music in a mixed voice choral format.
  • Articulate the correct stylistic characteristics of gospel music in the appropriate manner using proper vocal technique and tonal color.
  • Learn the fundamentals of presenting a concert, including wearing proper attire, stage etiquette, stage presence, microphone technique, and singing in proper choral formation. Present these learned fundamentals in a public concert on and off-campus.
