SOC 2226 Criminology
This course presents a framework for studying the nature and the causes of crime and criminal behavior. Focus is provided through criminal typologies and the myriad of theories using multi-disciplinary perspectives.
Prerequisites: SOC 1101
Course Outcomes
- Analyze theories of the development of criminal law and the legal process.
- Apply classical and contemporary theories of criminology.
- Identify the policies, processes and punishments associated with criminal procedures.
- Assess scholarly works and scientific research in the field of Criminology.
- Examine current trends, issues, and topics in criminology.
- Analyze causation, etiology, and prevention of criminal behavior.
- Analyze research on the cause and effect of crime.
- Identify various treatment approaches for criminals.
- Distinguish among diverse views characterizing criminal behavior.
