SPA 2201 Intermediate Spanish I

Reviews and extends basic principles through composition and conversation, stressing fluency. Work outside of class and/or in the language laboratory is required.

Prerequisites: SPA 1102

Course Outcomes
  • Read new materials (newspaper and magazine articles, contemporary literature, and other non-technical writings) limited in length and scope on specific topics in culture and literature, without dependence on a dictionary, picking out main ideas and related arguments. Write a short paper with description, narration, summarization, and development of original arguments.
  • Understand the history and scope of the culture of Spanish-speaking countries and compare/contrast it with other cultures in several fundamental areas. Make cultural comparisons between their own culture and another culture. Use original materials (short articles, pages from books) to support new assertions (limited research projects).
  • Comprehend a variety of materials. Use compound and complex sentences to express him/herself in more than one tense. Understand Spanish spoken by native speakers with a variety of regional pronunciations.
  • Employ most tenses, moods, grammatical features, and more complex structures (e.g., use of relative conjunctions).
