VIS 1430 Lighting & Cinematography

This course serves to introduce students to the technical aspects of filming video and lighting. Students will record and edit an interview style video with multiple cameras, complex lighting and sound.

Prerequisites: VIS 1410 and VIS 1420

Course Outcomes
  • Students will understand technical aspect of video, including aspect ratio and depth of field. Students will apply F-stop, shutter speed, ISO, and frame rate for correct exposure and natural movement in video. Students will understand proper lighting of a subject and how lighting changes exposure. Students will analyze lighting situations for different subject matter and applications.
  • Students will apply lighting and technical camera understanding by recording a multi-camera, interview style video.
  • Students will understand editing of multi-camera footage in industry standard software. Students will understand adding graphics and lower-third information to video. Students will understand sound editing for multiple sources and speakers. Students will output final video understanding format and platform to reach target viewer.
