Accessibility Services Instructor Resources
The mission of the Accessibility Services is to serve as advocates for qualified students with disabilities, offer accommodation provisions to students in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, provide consultation to staff and faculty on disability issues related to access and academic success, and suggest appropriate linkages to community resources.
The philosophy of Accessibility Services is to promote self-advocacy, inclusion, and to pursue innovation in services for students with disabilities. The department goal is to foster an environment where students can maximize their educational potential while assisting them to develop and/or maximize their independence.
The following policies and procedures have been developed to facilitate access.
Universal design is an approach to designing course instruction, materials, and content to benefit people of all learning styles without adaptation or retrofitting. Universal design provides equal access to learning, not simply equal access to information. Universal Design allows the student to control the method of accessing information while the teacher monitors the learning process and initiates any beneficial methods.

Accessibility Services offers a wide range of support services and accommodations to Sinclair Community College students with documented disabilities. The Accessibility Services office exists to provide accommodations for students with disabilities as mandated by:

- The Rehabilitation Act of 1973

Read and Write
Our Read & Write family of literacy software makes the web, documents and files more accessible - any time, any place, and on any platform or device. It's great for people with dyslexia and other learning difficulties, or anyone whose first language isn't English.
From reading on-screen text aloud to researching and checking written work, Read & Write makes lots of everyday tasks easier. It is a big confidence booster for anyone who needs a little extra help with their reading and writing, at school or in the workplace.

Captioning Media Guide
Sinclair Community College, relies on administrators, faculty and staff to provide equal access to all programs and activities for individuals with disabilities. The college is committed to adhering to the requirements of Sections 504 & 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, by providing reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities.
Individuals who are deaf or have hearing loss may require accommodations and/or modifications to course materials and/or other university communications. The most effective means of providing equal access to videos, movie clips, DVDs, and films is through the use of products with open or closed-captioning or subtitles. It is the responsibility of all units/departments, administrators, faculty and staff to utilize only media products with open or closed-captioning or subtitles, and/or provide an alternate format, such as a script. Please refer to this guide for resources and descriptions of captioning for your classes.
