Description

A Polysomnographic Technologist performs overnight, daytime, or home sleep studies, polysomnograms, on people with suspected sleep disorders. They work under the general supervision of a physician or designee. The polysomnographic technologist responsibilities include, but not limited to recording and analyzing related data and report their technical findings to the physician to aid in rendering a medical decision. The foundation principles of the Polysomnography certificate are geared toward the specialties of sleep, medicine, respiratory, neurology and behavioral sciences. The program includes a non-paid, supervised practicum to provide students the “hands-on” clinical experience at an SCC affiliated healthcare facility. Requires Professional Healthcare CPR; background check; immunizations prior to END 1891 - Polysomnography Practicum .

The Polysomnography Certificate Program is pursuing initial accreditation by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). This step in the process is neither a status of accreditation nor a guarantee that accreditation will be granted. Once accreditation is achieved completers of the program will be eligible to sit for the credentialing exam. Completers of the program are eligible for employment prior to obtaining their credential.
