The Mental Health Services degree prepares entry-level mental health professionals as members of an inter-disciplinary team under clinical supervision. Duties may include client interviewing, crisis intervention, advocacy, group facilitation and case management. The Mental Health Services degree can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis. If enrolled full-time, it is designed to be completed in five (5) semesters. This degree consists of open enrollment courses (general education and division specific) and program specific courses restricted to majors. The open enrollment courses may be taken prior to entry into the limited enrollment courses. To qualify for entry in to limited enrollment MHT courses, students must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA, a grade of C or higher in all program courses and complete MHAS Online Orientation and an initial faculty advising appointment while enrolled in MHT 1101 Introduction to Mental Health Services. The practicum portion of the curriculum provides 420 hours of supervised clinical experience. Note: For students under age 18 there may be restrictions on participating in certain Health Sciences programs. Any student under age 18 must contact the program director/department chair to discuss whether he or she may enroll. This degree program contains one or more embedded certificates which will be automatically awarded when the certificate requirements are completed.
